White Water Justice | Part 14: What Sort of King? | Matthew 25:31-46

On Palm Sunday, we expect donkeys and hosannas—but this week, Rev. Paul Lutton turns instead to Jesus’ parable of the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25:31–46) to ask a deeper question: What sort of King have we really come to welcome?

This powerful passage reframes Christ’s kingship not through triumph or power, but through mercy, humility, and radical justice. The King we follow hides among the least, judges not by status but by compassion, and calls us to live out the gospel in small, faithful acts.

With reflections on Les Misérables, a child’s prayer during the pandemic, and the theology of suffering and justice, this sermon challenges us to look for Christ in everyday faces—and to welcome him not just with palms, but with justice.
